The WAFL Head Coach works closely with the Head of Football, Reserves Coach, Assistant Coaches, IT/Analysis High-Performance Manager, Head Physiotherapist, Colts Coach, support staff and wider Football Club staff to lead and drive the creation of a positive learning, wellbeing and growth environment.

KEY FOCUS OF THIS POSITION (Why this job exists)

  • Implement the football program.
  • This includes being responsible for specialized line coaching and development of athletes for the senior playing group.
  • Drive on-field success in the club program through development of skills, physical attributes, football knowledge, personal growth, and self-esteem of all players.
  • Foster an elite environment that is considerate of players welfare and conducive to learning and enjoyment.
  • Establish, implement, and coordinate appropriate training programs that maximize the development of all players.
  •  Develop and maintain positive relationships with all support staff and volunteers.
  • Embrace the West Perth FC philosophy of developing our local talent (metro and regional districts) and promoting from within.
  • Understand and consider cultural backgrounds and player welfare issues when making decisions that may affect player performance.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED TO UNDERTAKE THE POSITION: 

  • WAFL or Senior PFL Coaching Experience (or similar)
  • Minimum Level 2 AFL Coach Accreditation
  • Demonstrated knowledge, involvement and understanding of talent development programs
  •  Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Mentor / teaching skills that develop trust and respect
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate and communicate sequential training and game plans
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and nurture young talent, develop high levels of team unity and inspire individuals and teams in the pursuit of team goals
  • Knowledge and experience in vision editing programs

The interview process is below:

  1. The First stage of the interview process will focus on the person, Why do you want to coach WPFC, what are your motivations and how has your football journey shaped you as a person.
  2. The second and final interview stage will focus on the coaching and philosophy element- what will your bring to the football club to ensure long term sustained success.
