Overall Position Objective:
Coordinate the delivery of the Association’s basketball programs and activities, with a focus on high-performance and pathways for players and coaches, with a view to increasing opportunities for athletes and coaches at the State and National level as well as providing pathways from domestic to WABL, through to NBL1.
Lead the on-court development of the associations junior representative program (WABL). Form relationships with local schools, grow and expand the Association’s junior development programs, work with the club’s identified coaches and NBL1 pathway athletes and deliver coach and player introduction courses in the Association’s northern-most operational priority areas.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Take directions from the CEO as applicable.
2. Promote participation and growth in all WBA competitions, programs and activities such as:
High Performance & Player Development
- Responsible for delivering the Wolves WABL program.
- Deliver WABL try outs, training curriculum, session plans and game day feedback and player mentoring.
- Deliver the ‘Wolfpack Way’ philosophy and curriculum in all on court sessions as required.
- Coordinate and deliver the ‘Wolfpack Futures’ program.
- Coordinate and deliver the club’s elite player development sessions - driving performance of top tier athletes.
- Coordinate and deliver the club’s NBL1 player development pathways program.
Coach Education & Development
- Lead coach development activities, fostering and maintaining effective relationships with coaches.
- Undertake coach mentoring, with a focus on the club’s WABL Head Coaches.
- Recruit, retain and develop coaches to the WABL program.
- Responsible for coach selection and monitoring.
- Develop coaching manuals and the ‘Wolfpack Way’ philosophy:
- Provide practical coach curriculum and learning tools, with a digital focus.
- Provide accessible and practical coaching resources, to assist and educate domestic club coaches.
Participation & Community Development Settings
- Oversee the delivery of all grass roots programs in-line with national curriculum and Wolves program model and manage casual staff and Basketball Development Coordinator.
- Further grow and improve the club’s junior competitions, focusing on fundamental skill development
- Work alongside key stakeholders, utilising the sport of Basketball to engage and activate northern coastal communities.
Wolves School Holiday Camps
- Oversee the delivery a series of School Holiday Camps that cater for various levels of player development and that grow the Association’s position as a destination for inclusive, innovative basketball experiences.
- School Development Sessions:
- Oversee the delivery of a series of Workshops/Clinics at schools within the northern region that cater for various levels of player development;
- Deliver intensive Basketball programs within school academy partners.
Development Programs
- Deliver and coordinate all WBA player development programs:
- Domestic Development (DDP)
- Hoops Academy
- Female Fundamentals
- WABL Camps & Clinics
- Futures Program
In addition to the duties specified above, the Employer is entitled to request the Employee to perform such other duties as are within the Employee’s skill, competence or training and are reasonably requested in order to meet the requirements of the company.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Relevant Basketball Coaching Experience
- Coaching experience at the State and or National level
- Relevant program delivery experience
- Minimum Level 2 (Association) coaching qualification
- Current “C” Class Driver’s License
- Current Working with Children’s Check (WWC)
- Senior coaching experience (NBL1 or equivalent level)
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Tertiary degree in Sports Management and/or Coaching
- Performance Level (Level 3) Coaching Accreditation
- Elite level coaching experience (NBL, WNBL, College etc.)
