About the Role

Reporting to the VFLW Senior Coach, the VFLW Senior Assistant Coach will be responsible for supporting the development of the VFLW playing group, through motivating, coaching and providing leadership skills. As the VFLW Senior Assistant Coach, you will communicate closely with, and support, the VFLW Senior Coach in motivating the playing group to perform to their highest level, achieved by developing strong working relationships with all players and support staff working within the Carlton VFLW Program.

It will also be the responsibility of the VFLW Senior Assistant Coach to assist in developing and implementing game plan and coaching strategies, as well as reviewing match vision and providing feedback and strategic insights at training and on game day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide coaching, teaching, and developmental support to the VFLW playing group.
  • Coordinate VFLW training plans in consultation with the VFLW Head Coach.
  • Identify players for training opportunities, for selected VFLW players in the AFLW program.
  • Support the VFLW Head Coach with Game Education, Oppo analysis and Game review for the VFLW program.
  • Perform as a Line Coach on game day.
  • Code and review of line-specific playing vision.
  • Coordinate weekly individual reviews with line-specific players.
  • Assist with Team Selection for game days.
  • Oversee the community club coaches, providing regular feedback on performance.

Experience, Skills and Attributes

  • 2+ years of proven coaching or playing ability at senior community, state league, AFLW or elite talent pathway level.
  • Relevant technical expertise, including the use of Hudl and Sportscode, and intimate knowledge of the elite State League coaching environment.
  • A proven ability to develop and implement football programs.
  • A thorough understanding of game strategies, playing styles, and tactics of opposition clubs, including strengths and weaknesses.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to display a high level of discretion, judgement & personal commitment.
  • Strong leadership skills and the proven ability to teach and motivate.
  • Capable of working a wide array of hours with a varying time schedule to suit the seasonal priorities of the various programs.
