St George Dragons and Illawarra Steelers came together ahead of the 1999 NRL season to form a proud powerhouse with over a century of combined history and represent two of Rugby League’s richest regions. All Dragons are custodians of the Red V and while the Red V is in our possession, it’s our responsibility to add to the story and hand down the history and legacy to the next generation of Players, employees, fans and community. About you
We are seeking a passionate and experienced social media expert to deliver innovative and impactful content, grow followers and engagement and create content that stops fans scrolling and wins an unfair share of attention online.
The ideal candidate will:
- be creative and have a playful mindset with a passion for storytelling
- have the proven skills to create engaging social media content that resonates and drives engagement with rugby league and general entertainment fans alike
- have exceptional copywriting and visual skills and be well versed in capturing and editing high-quality photography and video content
- enjoy interacting with our member and fan community, responding to comments and DMs, and building relationships with relevant influences and creators
- be up to date with the latest social media trends and algorithms, ensuring our content is always fresh and maximised in its reach
- be able to analyse social media performance metrics and adjust strategies to optimise content reach and engagement
- be hardworking and flexible, always willing to go the extra mile
- Understand the game of Rugby League (and the Dragons) in detail to allow you to work with our exceptional athletes to create stories that matter
Your key responsibilities
- Create, edit and publish high-quality, on-brand content (images, videos, posts, newsletters, eDM etc.) for digital and social media to increase engagement and visibility for our club and athletes
- Provide live social media updates and coverage of key Dragon’s events and matches (season launches, games, presentation nights, finals, etc)
- Train and travel with the team to conduct interviews with players, coaches, and officials to generate compelling storytelling year round – with a focus on the NRL and NRLW seasons
- Build and maintain relationships with followers across social media, responding to inquiries and engaging professionally
- Implement strategies to grow the Dragon’s digital audiences and enhance fan engagement and social platform presence
- Assist in planning and executing social media campaigns across various platforms
- Promote the brand, inform and engage the public and ultimately increase traffic, user engagement and commercial value of digital assets through dynamic, compelling and exclusive content, initiatives and activations
- Use project management tools (like Monday) to streamline workflows and collaborate with internal teams to deliver work on time
- Examine social media trends and analytics to improve the club's social media presence
Your qualifications, skills and experience
- Minimum four years experience with an agency (digital or sports marketing), inhouse with a sporting club or sponsor brand or an exceptionally strong portfolio of relevant freelance work over an extended period of time (with references)
- Highly skilled at operating videography, photography and audio equipment
- Skilled in the use of editing software, especially Adobe Premiere Pro, InDesign and Photoshop
- Strong copywriting ability to creatively caption content plus summarise key points for each relevant platform and audience
- Understanding of social media platforms, their algorithms and the ability to tailor content accordingly
- Ability to work independently and in a small team, manage multiple projects, and meet tight deadlines
- An in-depth knowledge of rugby league as well as the Dragons' and game's history - this is essential!
- Have the confidence to work with elite athletes and win their trust and respect with you work
- Achieve results through a diplomatic and tactful communication style
- High attention to detail.
You must be legally entitled to work in Australia, have an ability to work outside of ordinary office hours. Youi will travel and live with the team and must be available for interstate and international travel at times.
