PURPOSE OF THE POSITION 

The NSW Swifts are seeking a Social Media Manager that will lead the strategy and delivery of engaging, data-driven social content to elevate the NSW Swifts’ digital presence, strengthen fan and community connections, and drive attendance and membership growth. Working collaboratively across teams, the role ensures the Swifts’ social platforms reflect their on-court excellence and leadership in women’s sport within a dynamic and competitive digital landscape. 

NSW SWIFTS OVERVIEW 

The NSW Swifts are one of Australia’s most successful sporting clubs and the state’s leading professional female team, with a proud history of champion players, seven Premierships, and sustained finals success. As pioneers of women’s sport and a Foundation Club of the national league, the Swifts continue to pursue excellence on and off the court as they approach their 30th anniversary.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Content Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive annual social media strategy aligned with club objectives, marketing initiatives, and Suncorp Super Netball season calendars 

  • Create monthly content calendars across all active platforms

  • Identify emerging trends and opportunities to maintain audience growth and engagement in a competitive sports media environment 

  • Partner with marketing and communications teams to integrate social media into broader campaign initiatives and partnership activations 

  • Monitor competitor and broader sports industry social media activity to inform content strategy and competitive positioning.

 

Content Creation & Production

  • Produce and curate high-quality, platform-native content including short-form videos, behind-the-scenes footage, player features, match highlights, and community stories 

  • Coordinate and schedule content production workflows, including photography and videography across match days, training, community events, and media opportunities 

  • Update NSW Swifts website with written & video content. 

  • Stay current with platform algorithm changes, feature updates, and best practice shifts 

  • Ensure all content meets brand standards, accessibility requirements (captions, alt-text), and organizational policies 

 

Community Engagement & Management

  • Monitor social media channels daily, responding to comments, messages, and inquiries in a timely and professionally friendly manner 

  • Build and nurture online community through authentic engagement, recognizing supporter milestones, and fostering fan conversations 

  • Identify and cultivate relationships with key influencers, media partners, and community stakeholders 

  • Coordinate social media coverage of match days, events, and community initiatives, serving as a real-time storyteller during live competitions 

  • Develop initiatives that encourage user-generated content and fan participation

 

Analytics, Measurement & Optimisation

  • Working with GM Stakeholder Communications, establish KPIs for social media performance aligned with club objectives. 

  • Track and analyze performance metrics across all platforms using native platform insights and analytics tools (Meta Business Suite, YouTube Analytics, TikTok Analytics, etc.) 

  • Prepare performance reports for leadership, including trend analysis, audience insights, and strategic recommendations 

  • Use data-driven insights to continuously optimize content calendars, posting times, format mix, and messaging 

  • Conduct competitor and industry benchmarking to identify opportunities for differentiation and performance improvement 

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with the Communications Manager, PR team, and Events Manager to coordinate messaging across owned and earned media channels 

  • Partner with the Commercial and Partnerships team to amplify sponsor activations and partner initiatives through social platforms 

  • Collaborate with the Membership & Fan Engagement Coordinator on ticketing promotions, membership drives, and fan experience initiatives 

  • Coordinate with Netball NSW communications on system-wide campaigns affecting both the NSW Swifts and broader netball community 

  • Support media and broadcast partners with social media content and coordination

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential qualifications and experience

  • Minimum 2+ years of professional social media management experience, ideally within sports, entertainment, or community-focused organizations 

  • Demonstrated track record of growing social media audiences and increasing engagement metrics on multiple platforms 

  • Proven experience creating compelling video content, short-form storytelling, and platform-native content 

  • Strong understanding of social media analytics tools and ability to interpret data for strategic decision-making 

  • Current drivers license 

Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, plus a strong working knowledge of Microsoft office suite is required.  

  • Experience and understanding of the sport/not-for-profit industry 

  • Experience and understanding of netball

  • Strong collaborative mindset; ability to work effectively across teams with different priorities and perspectives 

  • High emotional intelligence and ability to build authentic relationships with athletes, staff, and supporters

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience working in team sports organizations 

  • Demonstrated experience managing social media for a competitive sports team or professional sports organization 

  • Portfolio of successful social media campaigns, particularly those driving engagement, attendance, or membership outcomes 

  • Experience with influencer partnerships, athlete personal branding, or creator collaborations 

  • Knowledge of safeguarding principles and Working with Children Check (WWCC) or equivalent 

  • Understanding of sponsorship activation and corporate partnership management through digital channels 

 

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK (WWCC)

In accordance with Child Protection legislation candidates will be required to provide a Working With Children Check (WWCC) clearance number for verification by Netball NSW prior to employment. Selection of the successful candidate will be based upon the results of child protection screening and relevant reference checks.
