Hoop City Cheltenham is seeking an energetic, experienced and inspiring Lead Coach to lead the delivery and quality of our basketball coaching programs. This full-time role blends hands-on coaching with leadership  and creating exceptional athlete and customer experiences.

As a senior leader within the coaching team, you'll set the standard for coaching excellence, foster a high-performance culture  and play a key role in the growth and reputation of Hoop City.

About the Role

As the Lead Coach, you will oversee all coaching programs at Hoop City Cheltenham, ensuring consistency, quality and progression across clinics, camps, memberships, and events. You’ll work afternoons and evenings (12pm–9pm), aligning with peak training times for our athletes and members.

Key Responsibilities

Coaching & Program Leadership

  • Lead high-quality coaching across all Hoop City programs.
  • Coach advanced and representative-level athletes when required.
  • Ensure consistency, progression  and strong delivery across the coaching team.

Coach Leadership & Development

  • Mentor, support, and develop casual and part-time coaches.
  • Observe sessions and provide constructive feedback.

Player Development & Culture

  • Build a positive, inclusive and high performance training environment.
  • Develop strong relationships with athletes and families.
  • Manage athlete behaviour in line with Hoop City policies.

Customer Experience & Community Engagement

  • Act as a senior brand ambassador for Hoop City.
  • Engage with parents, members, schools, clubs  and partners.
  • Support membership growth and athlete retention.

Operations & Administration

  • Assist with program scheduling and session planning.
  • Monitor attendance, feedback  and performance metrics.
  • Contribute to new program initiatives and seasonal planning.
  • Maintain accurate records, including attendance logs and incident reports.

Safety, Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure all coaching activities meet safety, compliance, and child safety standards.
  • Uphold Hoop City rules and codes of conduct.
  • Maintain required certifications (WWCC, First Aid).
  • Respond appropriately to incidents and injuries.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Extensive basketball coaching experience across junior and youth levels.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop coaches.
  • Strong technical basketball knowledge and athlete development expertise.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple programs and priorities.
