About the role
The Inclusion & Participation Officer plays an important role in supporting Wyndham’s growing community to be active, connected and healthy through participation in sport and physical activity.
Working as part of the Sport Development & Community Participation team, you will plan, coordinate and deliver a range of programs, projects and initiatives that increase opportunities for community members to participate in physical activity. This includes supporting informal recreation opportunities, working with community organisations and local sports clubs, and delivering initiatives that promote inclusive participation across the municipality.
You will collaborate with internal teams, community organisations, sports clubs, service providers and residents to strengthen participation pathways and help activate sport and recreation spaces across Wyndham.
This role also contributes to the delivery of Council strategies and priorities relating to sport, recreation and community participation.
What your day will look like
- Plan, coordinate and deliver programs, projects and events that encourage participation in sport and physical activity across Wyndham.
- Work with community organisations, sports clubs and service providers and Wyndham residents to develop and promote inclusive opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to be physically active.
- Support local sports clubs, community organisations and physical activity providers to strengthen their capacity and grow participation opportunities within the community.
- Implement place-based approaches to activate sport and recreation facilities and encourage community use.
- Identify and pursue external funding opportunities, including State and Federal grants, to support the delivery of participation initiatives.
- Engage with a range of internal and external stakeholders to support collaborative program delivery and community outcomes.
- Prepare reports, correspondence and project documentation to support the delivery of sport and recreation initiatives.
What you will bring
- Tertiary qualification (degree) in Sport Management, Recreation Planning, Community Development or an allied discipline.
- Demonstrated experience planning, coordinating and delivering sport, recreation or physical activity programs that increase participation.
- Strong ability to build effective relationships with community organisations, sports clubs, service providers residents and internal stakeholders.
- Demonstrated project management skills including planning, delivery and evaluation of programs or initiatives.
- Understanding of inclusive participation principles and experience supporting diverse communities to access sport and recreation opportunities.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports, correspondence and present to internal and external forums.
- An outcome-focused approach with the ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and contribute positively to a high-performing team.
- A current Victorian Drivers Licence
