The role 

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Senior Squad Coach to establish the Squad Program at our brand-new facility. The successful applicant will be responsible for development and provision of coaching programs to all squad students, working in collaboration with Learn to Swim to ensure a smooth student journey from beginner to elite.

A key aspect of this role is to lead by example, cultivating and maintaining positive relationships with team members, swimmers, teachers, parents, and the broader community.

This is an exciting and unique opportunity to lead and motivate a brand-new team and establish a strong, competitive base for NSOP Swim Squads. You will be an original member of one of Sydney’s most iconic sites, making a difference, and contributing to the NSOP’s positive and competitive positioning within the wider swimming community.

The person 

The Senior Squad Coach will be responsible for providing leadership to the Squad Coaches, with a focus on consistent, safe, high-quality instruction and program delivery. This role will suit a person with extensive technical knowledge and experience in coaching principles and demonstrated success in leading squad programs.

In addition, the Senior Squad Coach will play a key role in helping to build and maintain a strong, positive squad culture - one where staff can grow and thrive, and swimmers feel motivated to train hard and proudly represent NSOP.

The ideal applicant will thrive on new challenges related to the ongoing development of NSOP Swim Squads and have the capacity to provide insightful, ongoing operational and strategic review to enhance the overall success of the programs. They will be a confident leader and collaborator who excels in motivating and mentoring staff and who is passionate about providing safety and excellence in coaching and instruction. A commitment to continuous learning and a demonstrated ability to be flexible and work with others to achieve best-practice outcomes will be highly regarded.

Essential Criteria 

  • SCTA Silver Coach / Swimming Australia Advanced Coach or equivalent
  • Experience coaching Metro, State and National Swimmers
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Excellent communication skills with both young people and adults
  • Demonstrated experience providing leadership and working as an effective team member.
  • Be able to satisfy the requirement of the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012 and Child Protection (Working with Children) Regulations 2013 and provide a current NSW Working with Children Clearance; and adhere to Workplace Health and Safety requirements.

Desirable Criteria 

  • Hold current qualifications as a Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety (recognised in NSW) (Austswim / Royal Life Saving / Swim Australia).
  • Demonstrated understanding of the ‘business’ element of the squad program.
  • Broad knowledge of Learn to Swim from Infant swimming to Squads.
  • Pool lifeguard certification
  • Experience and knowledge of local government practices, regulations, and policies.

Salary from: $89,891 to $107,336 per annum + 12% superannuation + $1,000 pa transport allowance
