About BTYC

BTYC Gymnastics (est. 1963) is a thriving, community-focused club in Melbourne, known for its strong athlete pathway, positive culture, and commitment to quality coaching at every level. We are passionate about developing not only great gymnasts, but great people - fostering confidence, resilience, and a love for the sport in a supportive and professional environment.

Our coaches are at the heart of everything we do. We prioritise athlete wellbeing, clear communication with families, and a team-first coaching culture where staff feel valued, supported, and empowered to grow. BTYC proudly covers the annual Gymnastics Australia coach membership fee for all coaches and invests in ongoing professional development, including upskilling and qualifications where needed.

At BTYC, you’re not just joining a club - you’re joining a team that genuinely cares about its people, its athletes, and the future of the sport.

The Role - Working Directly With the Head Coach

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Women’s Artistic Gymnastics coach to step into an Assistant Head Coach position within our WAG program.

For the immediate future, this role will operate very much as an Assistant Head Coach, working side-by-side with our current Head Coach on a daily basis. You will be directly involved in coaching, planning, programming, and decision-making for our upper-level athletes while being mentored and supported into a future Head Coach capacity. The role has the potential to develop into a full time role as Head Coach in the future.

This role is ideal for a coach already confident with Levels 8–10 athletes and ready to transition into program leadership with guidance and support.

The position offers 15-20 coaching hours per week (open to discussion), significant flexibility, involvement in management and program development, and an immediate start is available.

This is the perfect role for someone looking into a long term career in high level gymnastics coaching.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coach WAG Levels 8-10 athletes alongside the Head Coach
  • Assist the Head Coach with session planning, programming, and athlete pathways
  • Contribute to technical direction and consistency across the WAG program
  • Provide clear, professional communication with athletes and families
  • Support and mentor other WAG coaches within the program
  • Uphold and implement BTYC’s technical standards and shaping philosophy
  • Be willing to nominate for State Teams and attend Nationals and other key events
  • Assist with broader program and management tasks as the role develops

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Minimum FIG Level 2 or Gymnastics Australia Advanced Silver qualification (or higher)
  • Demonstrated experience coaching WAG Levels 8-10 athletes
  • Working rights in Australia (International/overseas candidates are welcome to apply)
  • Strong technical knowledge across all WAG apparatus
  • Confidence working within an established club framework and syllabus
  • Excellent communication skills and leadership potential
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a coaching team
  • Reliability, professionalism, and a positive coaching attitude
  • First Aid & CPR (or willingness to obtain)
  • Valid WWCC (or willingness to obtain)

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Background or knowledge in ballet
  • Strong knowledge in all areas of WAG apparatus, with an expertise in Bars and Vault
  • Experience attending State, National, or Interstate events
  • Experience mentoring or supporting other coaches
  • Interest in moving into program leadership and management
  • FIG Level 3 or higher

About You

You are an experienced WAG coach ready for the next step. You are technically strong, organised, and passionate about athlete development at the upper levels of the sport. You are excited by the opportunity to work closely with a Head Coach, contribute to program direction, and grow into a leadership role within a supportive, forward-thinking club.

Why Join BTYC?

  • Work directly alongside an experienced Head Coach every day
  • Be part of a supportive, progressive coaching team
  • Work in a well-resourced facility with quality artistic equipment
  • Genuine pathway into program leadership and management
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Additional hours available if desired
