The Role
The Scots College is seeking a dynamic and visionary Rowing – Head of Performance to lead the technical direction and coaching excellence of our Rowing program.
The primary purpose of this role is to drive the performance of the program across the entire College. This is an elite leadership position focused on the development of a College-wide curriculum, the mentoring of our coaching staff, and the implementation of professional learning strategies that ensure our program remains at the forefront of schoolboy sport within the AAGPS and IPSHA competitions.
Key Accountabilities
Performance & Curriculum:
Develop and implement a comprehensive Rowing Performance Curriculum that supports the developmental needs of students from junior levels through to the senior boats. As a focal point of this role, you will personally lead and coach the College 1st VIII.
Coaching Leadership:
Lead the recruitment, induction, and training of all Rowing coaches. You will be responsible for communicating the technical curriculum and providing regular, constructive feedback through session observations and workshops to drive continuous improvement.
Athlete Development:
In collaboration with the Strength and Conditioning team, oversee athlete development tracking, load management, and monitoring systems to optimize performance and long-term physical health for rowers across all age groups.
Professional Development:
Design and manage a Professional Development Strategy for staff, including organizing guest speakers, high-performance clinics, and maintaining a repository of modern technical and tactical coaching resources.
Culture & Alignment:
In conjunction with the Head of Operations, ensure the program community—staff, students, and parents—operates in total alignment with the College’s vision, mission, and values.
Compliance & Review:
Oversee a rigorous performance review framework for all coaches, ensuring detailed record-keeping and alignment with College standards and required certifications (WWCC, First Aid, etc.).
About You
You are a highly experienced coach or high-performance manager with a passion for mentorship and technical growth. You possess:
- A proven track record of coaching at an elite level, with the ability to lead a 1st VIII to success.
- Deep expertise in modern rowing technical frameworks, rigging, and athlete development pathways.
- The ability to lead and inspire a diverse cohort of coaches to deliver a unified coaching vision.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage professional development budgets and performance review processes.
- Excellent communication skills to engage with a motivated student body and parent community.
Special Requirements
The nature of this position requires the appointee to be available outside of normal school hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, to lead training sessions and attend regattas throughout the rowing season. The appointee is expected to participate fully in the life of the College.
