Opening late 2026, the new Canterbury Leisure & Aquatic Centre is set to become the heart of health, fitness and fun in our community. We are now recruiting a number of casual Pool Lifeguards to help deliver safe, welcoming and high-quality aquatic services across our Leisure and Aquatic centres.
The role
We are looking for committed, reliable and qualified Pool Lifeguards to join our team on a casual basis. If you enjoy being active, working with people and making a real difference in your community, this role is a great fit.
As a Pool Lifeguard, you will:
- Supervise our Leisure and Aquatic areas.
- Support and educate customers on safe swimming.
- Prevent and respond to incidents.
- Help create a positive, welcoming experience for everyone who visits our aquatic facilities.
We offer flexible shifts from Monday to Sunday, including early mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays. This is a great opportunity if you are studying, working another job or looking for additional casual hours.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
- Supervise pool areas safely and attentively in line with supervision plans and procedures.
- Provide excellent customer service to visitors, families and patrons.
- Enforce water safety rules, including the “Keep Watch @ Public Pools” program.
- Respond to emergencies, incidents and first aid situations.
- Support a clean, safe and welcoming aquatic centre environment.
- Work collaboratively with the Leisure and Aquatic Services team.

You will have:
- Current RLSSA Pool Lifeguard Certificate.
- Current First Aid Certificate.
- Current CPR Certificate.
- Current Working with Children Check, if you are 18 years or over.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
- Evidence of full unrestricted working rights in Australia.
Recruitment process
Shortlisted applicants may be invited to complete online screening/testing and attend an Engagement Centre as part of the recruitment process.
Key dates:
- Applications close Sunday, 28 June 2026.
- Online testing will be issued on Wednesday, 1 July 2026 and will close on Thursday, 2 July 2026.
- Engagement Centre group recruitment sessions are expected to take place from Monday, 6 July 2026 to Friday, 10 July 2026.
- Successful applicants are expected to commence from September 2026.
Pre-employment checks will include reference checks, verification of qualifications and clearances, and a medical assessment.
Applicants should ensure their Pool Lifeguard qualification, First Aid, CPR and Working with Children Check, if over 18, are current and ready to provide.
The rate for this opportunity starts at $39.23 per hour, including casual loading, plus AWCA 1 allowance and 12% super.
