ORGANISATIONAL OVERVIEW

Swimming is Australia’s highest participation sport and is an activity that is synonymous with the Australian way of life. Swimming offers participants both important life skills and a sport that can be enjoyed by all ages and ability levels.

Swimming NSW (SNSW) is the peak body for the sport in NSW. Swimming NSW also includes the ACT as an area with ACT government jurisdictional oversight. We aim to be the number one swimming state in Australia in performance and participation.

We understand that our members have many dreams about what they want to achieve in our sport, but they all share our passion for swimming and that is why it is our Mission to provide opportunities and pathways to enable everyone to enjoy swimming and develop the potential of all participants.

ROLE PURPOSE

Swimming NSW and Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA) are partnering to bring a world-class coaching program to the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre (SOPAC) Squad program. Swimming NSW will use its significant coaching experience to provide a team of Coaches that will provide athlete and coaching pathways from Learn to Swim through to the National Team at Australia’s premier Aquatic Centre.

The State Squad Performance Coach will be responsible for managing and coordinating the daily and seasonal coaching programs for the State Performance Squad in line with the technical direction set by the Head Age Group Coach. It is vital that this Coach understands their role within the wider SOPAC Coaching program and develops and prepares swimmers to progress along the SOPAC Squad Pathway.

To be successful in this role, you will have specific age group performance swimming related experience over a sustained period of time and be demonstrate a track record of building a high- performance culture and achieving results personally and from your athletes. We are looking for an individual that is passionate about swimming and be committed to encouraging best practice in skill acquisition while creating an environment that is team focused and enjoyable.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

The State Squad Performance Coach will:

• Manage and Coordinate the daily and seasonal coaching programs for the State Squad Performance Squad
• Support the Head Age Group Coach with the delivery of the Junior Competition and Transition Squad programs including delivering regular sessions for the Junior Competition Squad.
• Develop athletes in accordance with the technical direction set by the Head Age Coach
• Prepare talented State Squad level swimmers for podium success at State and where relevant National Championships
• Provide the Head Age Group Coach and Performance Centre Program Head Coach with regular reports of athlete performance and talent identification for the swimmers in the SOPAC Squad Program.
• Assist with the delivery of services and resources for identified athletes to enhance performance in areas of technical, psychological and life skills in consultation with the Head Coach.
• Assist the Head Age Group Coach to monitor progression of swimmers through the squad program and work with the SOPAC Learn to Swim program to identify talented swimmers and encourage participation in the squad program.
• Actively promote the squad program and participation in the affiliated SOPAC Swimming Club.
• Backfill across SNSW SOPAC Performance Centre squad programs as required.
• Attend and support SNSW Performance & Pathways initiatives as required.
