About Badminton Australia
Badminton Australia is the national governing body for badminton in Australia. Working with our State and Territory member organisations and national and international partners, we promote, develop and administer a sport that offers opportunities for everyone, at every stage of life.
With our strategic plan launched in 2025, a growing focus on national and international events, and preparations underway for the BWF World Senior Championships 2027 (Geelong, Victoria 28 Nov - 5 Dec), this is an exciting time to join Badminton Australia. You will help deliver events that bring our community together and contribute to a major international championship, making a visible contribution to the sport.
About the role
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you will lead the planning, delivery and continuous improvement of Badminton Australia’s allocated event portfolio. You will deliver safe, inclusive, well-organised and financially responsible events, balancing detailed operational work with strong relationships and effective planning.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading delivery of national championships across open, junior, para badminton and school competitions.
- Delivering the Australian International Challenge and Para Badminton International, alongside other allocated international tournaments.
- Managing event plans, schedules, venues, equipment, suppliers, officials and participant services.
- Recruiting and coordinating event support staff, volunteers, students, casuals and contractors.
- Preparing and monitoring budgets, forecasts and expenditure, and coordinating funding acquittals with finance staff.
- Managing event risks, contingency plans, safety, integrity and accessibility requirements.
- Building productive relationships with member organisations, hosts, venues and delivery partners.
You will also support the CEO and appointed Event Director with the Australian Badminton Open and provide agreed operational support to the BWF World Senior Championships 2027, which has separate event leadership and budget accountability.
About you
You are an organised, collaborative event professional who enjoys bringing people together and turning plans into successful events. You combine sound judgement with a practical approach to solving problems under pressure.
You will bring:
- A qualification in sport management, event management or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Demonstrated sporting event delivery experience, including managing budgets, schedules, suppliers, risks and competing deadlines.
- Experience delivering national events of significance and coordinating event teams, volunteers, contractors and partners.
- Strong project management, interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Confidence using event administration systems and office tools.
International competition experience, badminton knowledge, and familiarity with tournament systems and event funding will be highly regarded.
The role requires travel, evening and weekend work, and hands-on involvement in equipment transport, setup and pack-down. Reasonable adjustments will be supported where required. A six-month probation period applies.
Inclusion and child safety
Badminton Australia welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with disability, LGBTQ+ people and culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
We are committed to child safety and safeguarding. The successful candidate will be required to complete the necessary Working with Children, police and reference checks. Applicants must have, or be able to obtain, permission to work in Australia.
