Gold Coast Basketball is one of the fastest-growing basketball associations in Queensland, delivering high-quality competitions, development pathways, and community programs. We’re passionate about creating a professional, fun, and high-performance environment - both on and off the court.

We are now seeking an Officials Manager to lead, develop, and elevate our referee program.

About the Role

This is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing all aspects of referee development, performance, and operations across our competitions.

You will play a critical role in building a strong officiating culture, developing clear pathways, and ensuring our games are consistently delivered at a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

Referee Development & Pathways

• Design and deliver beginner, development and inermediate referee courses
• Lead and manage the Referee Development Program
• Oversee and coordinate the Mentor & Educator Program
• Implement and manage a clear referee pathway progressing officials toward QSL and higher levels
• Identify and develop high-potential referees
• Game Night Operations
• Ensure all games are adequately staffed with referees across all courts
• Provide on-the-floor education, coaching, and feedback during game nights
• Maintain high officiating standards and consistency

Rostering & Workforce Management

• Manage or oversee referee rostering systems
• Ensure effective allocation of referees based on skill level and competition requirements
• Monitor availability, performance, and retention of officials
• Deliver ongoing training sessions (in-person and online)
• Develop resources and frameworks to support referee growth
• Provide regular performance feedback and evaluations

Communication & Engagement

• Manage communications with referees via Facebook groups, apps, and other platforms
• Foster a strong, positive, and engaged referee community
• Handle feedback, concerns, and general referee support

Stakeholder Collaboration

• Liaise closely with:
• Court Controllers
• Competition Managers
• Operations Manager
• General Manager
• Contribute to the overall success of competitions and events

About You

We’re looking for someone who is both a leader and a developer of people.

You will ideally have:

• Strong knowledge of basketball officiating (refereeing background is essential)
• Experience in training, mentoring, or developing officials or athletes
• Excellent organisational and rostering skills
• Confident communication and leadership ability
• A passion for building pathways and growing people
• Ability to work evenings and weekends (aligned with competition schedules)
