Description

The General Manager (GM) is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership across all areas of Woollahra Sailing Club.

Working in close collaboration with the WSC Board, the GM ensures sound governance, delivers strong membership outcomes, and drives the development of sailing and paddling pathways.

Budget Responsibility

  • Accountable for the development, management and performance of the WSC budget, in consultation with the Board

Key Accountabilities

Board and Governance

  • Provide high quality, timely and strategic advice to the WSC Chair (Commodore) and Board
  • Support the effective operation of the Board and Board Committees, including reporting and governance processes

Stakeholder Management

  • Develop and maintain effective partnerships with key stakeholders including members, Australian Sailing, Woollahra Council and the sailing and paddling communities
  • Identify opportunities with external entities to create mutually beneficial partnerships

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, motivate and inspire the Woollahra Sailing Club paid and volunteer workforce
  • Develop a high-performing, empowered and inclusive team culture that delivers on WSC strategy and objectives
  • Lead the staff team, ensuring strong communication and alignment to strategic and operational priorities
  • Act as a strong advocate for the sailing and paddling communities

Strategy and Planning

  • Work collaboratively with WSC members and community stakeholders to drive sustainable growth of the Club
  • Lead, in close consultation with the Board, the development and implementation of the Strategic Plan
  • Ensure the Strategic Plan is integrated across all areas of the Club and report on progress against agreed deliverables

Financial and Risk Management

  • Work closely with the WSC accountant to ensure the timely and accurate preparation of annual budgets, forecasts and financial reports to the Board
  • Maintain accountability for the financial performance of the Club, including profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow
  • Ensure appropriate financial controls, systems and reporting processes are in place

Skills, Experience and Knowledge

Qualifications

Essential

  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in business, sport management or membership organisations

Experience

  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing a member-based organisation, preferably within the sport and/or recreation sector
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a member-based organisation
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategic and operational plans
  • Demonstrated experience working with Boards and Committees
  • Experience in sailing, highly desirable
