About Australian Athletics

Australian Athletics (AA) is the governing body for Athletics in this country. It is a National Sporting Organisation whose major partner is the Australian Sports Commission. AA is responsible for athletics, including high performance, participation, coaching, officiating, juniors, para-athletics, domestic and international competition. Australian Athletics has a critical role in leading, fostering and encouraging participation in athletics in Australia and promoting excellence in performance.

As we head towards the 2028 LA Games & 2032 Brisbane Games, it is an exciting time to join our Team! We are currently seeking to recruit a Disability Inclusion Programs Coordinator (12 Month Fixed Term Contract).  

About the Role:

The Disability Inclusion Programs Coordinator is responsible for the administration and coordination of a suite of Australian Athletics’ national initiatives aimed to facilitate increased opportunities for children and young people with a disability to participate in athletics.

Your core duties will include:

• Provide advice in relating to athletics participation for children and young people with disability.
• Deliver participation opportunities for children with disabilities.
• Coordinate ongoing discussions and investigation into appropriate deployment of the II-3 autism classification within the athletics ecosystem.
• Develop and deploy resources to assist staff, clubs and volunteers.
• Support the develop of communications activities to increase awareness and drive participation in related initiatives.

What we are looking for:

You will have a deep understanding of the value of sport and a demonstrated understanding of the barriers to participation for children with a disability and their families. A key skill will be your ability to build stakeholder relationships and positive collaboration with Member Associations, Disability Sporting Organisation partners, disability service providers and suppliers, classifiers, schools, teachers, coaches, clubs, parents, and contractors. 

Ideally you will have:

• Tertiary qualifications in education, management, project management or other related fields.
• Demonstrated understanding of the barriers to participation for children and young people with a disability and their families.
• Demonstrated understanding of a range of disabilities, particularly autism.
• Experience in developing and/or coordinating programs and initiatives for people with a disability that address barriers to entry and ongoing involvement, preferably in a sporting context.
• Demonstrated project management, coordination, and planning skills, with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Experience in producing reports in line with Commonwealth Government grant agreements.
• A keen commitment to clean sport and abiding by AA’s National Integrity Framework suite of policies, the Australian National Anti-doping Policy, and AA Code of Conduct.
• Well-developed capability for difficult conversations and experience applying trauma-informed practices.
• Hold and maintain a valid Working with Children Check and (or ability to hold) and a Police Check.
